Back to the Motherland is an alternative rock band from Canada's capital influenced by contemporary genres such as blues, punk, and underground experimentation.

 

Formed by core members Thanasi Kioulos (Tom Anthony) and Gabriel Leger (Caldwell), Back To The Motherland started a  movement to change the underground rock scene. Upon visiting underground shows in their youth, the high school pals were disturbed by the amount of bands that limited themselves musically by defining themselves to a specific genre. It seemed nobody was taking an original approach to music anymore, and the drive to advance music as an art no longer existed. The two took to the original ideology of the punk rock movement to fight the artificial face of the corporate music industry. After graduating, Thanasi and Gabe decided to take songs written by Thanasi and put them to an alternative form of rock music.
